I am an on-location, natural light photographer based in Dallas, Texas. My style is based on beautiful light, pastels, and intimate connections. My goal is to beautifully capture the most precious moments in your life in a way that you will cherish for many years to come. I can't wait to get to know you!
Here we are, already in December! Has it been a busy time of year for you? It’s definitely been busy for me, especially having a newborn around! (which I’m loving every minute of!)
I think it’s so easy for December’s to-dos to creep up on us . . . decorate the house, find the perfect tree, untangle miles of Christmas lights, write one hundred and one Christmas cards, etc. It’s such a wonderful time of year, but one of the trickiest things is coming up with the perfect answer to the classic question we all ask ourselves:
“What should I get so-and-so for Christmas?”
I don’t know about you, but I think there’s nothing like the feeling you have when you just *know* you found a fantastic Christmas gift for someone. You imagine their face lighting up when they open the gift, plus the anticipation of seeing their face makes the whole thing even sweeter.
I imagine you’re also probably brainstorming answers to the classic gift question, I wanted to share some ideas for thoughtful, unique gift experiences in the DFW area for today’s blog. When you gift an experience, you’re gifting a memory that the receiver will have forever, so get ready – your perfect Christmas gift idea might be just a scroll away:)
Gift a Photography Session
In today’s world we are often pressed for time and caught up in any number of things that need our attention. When you gift a photo session, it’s the gift that keeps on giving!!
Not only do you get the chance to get all dressed up to make memories with your family but you will also end up with precious physical printed photographs at the end. (I mean, we all take photos on our phones, but how often do they end up printed and framed?)The final photos will go on to be cherished for years to come.
How happy will your mom be looking back at the photos from the photography session you gifted her with her grandkids? Or your wife when she remembers how your photography session was a great excuse to get the family together to capture those sweet details you never want to forget?
Gift a Membership to the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Garden
No matter how long or short you’ve lived in the DFW area, you’re probably familiar with the beautiful Arboretum & Botanical Garden next to White Rock Lake. A membership here is a really fun non-material Christmas gift idea for couples and families.
There’s over 60 acres of gardens with seasonal flowers, trees, and plant collections, plus two different dining options. A membership here would easily make this a go-to date spot for couples.
For families with young kids (I’m right there with you mom or dad!), an Arboretum membership is a good option because there’s a ton of space for kids to explore. Parents can enjoy the views and seasonal outdoor festivals. Plus, who wouldn’t love to visit in the fall when there’s thousands of pumpkins all over the place?
Gift a Cooking Class
If you’re looking for a gift for a super foodie or maybe you know someone who loves learning new skills. . . how about a cooking class?
Sur La Table and the Cookery Dallas both offer interactive cooking classes. The classes vary between international, regional and seasonal cuisine, so this type of gift might also appeal to someone who likes to travel and try new dishes but hasn’t been able to because of covid restrictions.
While a lot of people might enjoy this type of gift, it’s probably a good idea to consider how into cooking whoever receives this gift would be. Sur La Table class reviews emphasize how hands-on the cooking classes are, while reviews for the Cookery focus on the in-depth overview of ingredients and history of each individual dish.
Either way, a cooking class is definitely a cool opportunity to learn new cooking tips and tricks from a professional chef.
Gift a Visit to the Fort Worth Zoo
This is a gift experience in the DFW area that little kids and grown up “kids” can probably both agree is guaranteed to put a smile on the receiver’s face. Fort Worth’s Zoo has actually been rated one of the top zoos in the country by the Los Angeles Times and USA Today.
There are hundreds of species of animals to see at the zoo, including penguins, elephants, and many primates, but many people say one of their favorite parts of a zoo visit is feeding the giraffes.
The Fort Worth Zoo even has a special “Wild Texas” section – Wild West town included – dedicated to wild animals in Texas.
