I am an on-location, natural light photographer based in Dallas, Texas. My style is based on beautiful light, pastels, and intimate connections. My goal is to beautifully capture the most precious moments in your life in a way that you will cherish for many years to come. I can't wait to get to know you!
At a recent maternity session, I asked the parents-to-be what the gender of their baby was. They said, “Oh, we don’t know yet.” I thought – how exciting! As we continued talking, the couple shared all the fun comments they have been getting:
“Ohhh, your belly is more round; it’s got to be a boy!”
“I can feel it. You’re having a girl.”
Wow! Doesn’t it feel like almost everyone finds out their baby’s gender before they are born these days?
If you follow me on Instagram or my blog, you know I’m the mama to 2 sweet little boys. So, you might be wondering, did I find out my babies’ sex before they were born?
While I think it’s super cool to wait until your baby is born to find out, here’s my big reveal (no pun intended, haha): I’m not patient enough!
Not only that, but I was even *less* patient with my second baby than my first!
With my first baby, Dominic, we did a gender reveal with friends and family, which was so exciting. More recently, with my second, it was a different story.
I took the test to find out my baby’s sex and was dying to find out the entire time I was waiting for the results. The second I got a notification that results were available, I called my doctor and was like…” Okay, tell me now!”
I researched google and learned something interesting. There’s not a ton of data on this! According to fivethirtyeight.com:
“A team of doctors from Harvard Medical School in Boston issued 1,340 questionnaires to mothers-to-be and their male partners who were present. They found that overall, 58 percent of women and 58 percent of men said they had found out or planned to find out the sex of the fetus.”
So, if you’re parents in the 42%, how can you resist finding out your baby’s sex? Here’s the real question to think about:
How exciting will the surprise be?!? (I mean, who doesn’t love surprises?)
For millennia, parents had the wonderful surprise of “is it a boy” or “is it a girl” question to look forward to before the technology existed to find out a baby’s sex. Especially as we get older, there are not nearly as many fun surprises in life like there were growing up.
There’s nothing like that moment of meeting your baby for the first time, but no doubt it’s extra exciting to find out whether it’s a boy or girl when the baby arrives.
Plus, if mom waits to find out, it’s even a little extra incentive to push during labor. (Speaking of which, you can check out my previous blog post here about my recent natural birth: https://anadufrechephotography.com/2021/10/24/my-birth-story-fresh-48-photos/ ) .
There’s, of course, no correct answer to the question of finding out whether you’re having a boy or a girl while still pregnant, but it’s such a fun topic to think about.
