I absolutely adore in-home sessions because I have the opportunity to capture photos of your sweet family (and pets too!) in the comfort of your own home! These simple but timeless photos offer a glimpse into your everyday life, capturing the essence of your family in the setting where you build so many of your precious memories.
Here are a few reasons to consider an in-home session for family, newborn, or maternity photos.

Bad Weather Is No Problem

As a photographer in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, I know how hard it can be to predict Texas weather. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve refreshed the weather app on my phone in the days leading up to a scheduled session, hoping the forecasted inclement weather would disappear in time for an outdoor shoot. In the summer, the heat can make even clear days rough for outdoor sessions. And winters are all over the place – just this past weekend, we enjoyed some gorgeous 70 degree weather, but there is a 100% chance of snow by the end of this week!  

In-home sessions mean no rescheduling for an unexpected hail storm or heatwave. Even if you’d like to plan an outdoor session at a favorite location, an in-home session can always be a backup plan.

Home is the Center of Your Story 

Your home is the place you’ve built for your family, crafting it to your unique tastes and needs. It’s a reflection of who you are. What better place to document the love and connection within your family than in a location that defines you? 

While there are plenty of pros to outdoor sessions, in-home sessions can really encapsulate the intimacy and essence of your family’s life. For these sessions, I take lots of candid pictures of you simply being together as a family to capture some genuine smiles and laughs from everyone. 

Kids Feel at Ease in Their Own Homes

I specialize in family photography and love working with children of all ages. But I also know that small children can sometimes feel uneasy in a new location. While I do my best to help children feel safe in any location, kids automatically feel more comfortable in their own environment. At in-home sessions, I’ve seen kids’ personalities shine through as they interact in their own home. With in-home photography, I’m able to capture who your child is.  

Because in-home sessions tend to be a little more relaxed, it can also be easier to capture the connection among family members because everyone feels more comfortable being authentic and intimate. 

Staying Home is Easy 

I know that organizing your family for a photo session can sometimes be a little stressful–planning what to where or when to take the photos to fit around nap, work, or school schedules is time-consuming. An in-home session removes the added stress of having to travel somewhere. There’s no strapping a dapper-dressed toddler into his car seat and crossing your fingers he doesn’t have an accident before you get to your location. You don’t have to worry about a baby falling asleep on the way and waking up grumpy from her poor nap. 

For an in-home session, I come to you, giving you some space and time to breathe and feel relaxed for your photos.  

The Focus is Still on Your Family

While we’ll want to choose rooms or spaces in your home that are fairly clean and well-lit, don’t worry if your home isn’t “perfect” (because whose home is?). I’m not there to photograph the dust on your shelves or the toys on the floor; I’m there to capture simple and authentic moments between family members. Your home offers a beautiful and unique backdrop, but your family is the heart of the photos.
