I am an on-location, natural light photographer based in Dallas, Texas. My style is based on beautiful light, pastels, and intimate connections. My goal is to beautifully capture the most precious moments in your life in a way that you will cherish for many years to come. I can't wait to get to know you!
You may have seen my post earlier this year about my recently opened Dallas-Fort Worth natural light photography studio. In the short time I’ve had the new space, I’ve adored offering professional studio photography in Dallas as an option for my clients.
Don’t get me wrong–I’ll always love taking outdoor photos in DFW (you can’t beat that Texas sky: hello golden hour!). At the same time, my Dallas studio offers a classic but unique location for beautiful, natural light photos, for maternity, newborn, or family photography in DFW. (Plus, from one parent to another: booking a studio photography session can remove a whole lot of stress from your photography experience!)
Here are 5 reasons you should consider choosing a natural light studio session for your next family, newborn, or maternity photos in DFW.
We all know that weather here in Dallas-Fort Worth can be slightly (okay, sometimes more than slightly) unpredictable. You can plan for a beautiful outdoor photography session in Grapevine or downtown McKinney, only to have it ruined by a surprise cold snap that leaves you shivering between photos. Just as bad is the other extreme: a blisteringly hot, sticky day that makes you start sweating the second you step outside. Unless you’re snapping shots of your marathon win, the glistening-sweat-look is not exactly the “glow” most people look for in their photos.
Too hot or too cold can easily throw off an outdoor photography session, not to mention the chance of rain. Even when it’s not extreme, the weather in DFW can change in the blink of an eye. While I’m always willing to reschedule when the weather isn’t ideal, it’s not always feasible to change plans last minute.
When you book me for a professional Dallas studio photography session, you don’t have to waste a second worrying about the weather the day of your photoshoot. Photography in an indoor, temperature controlled space is the perfect answer to tricky Texas weather.
Lighting plays such an important role in photography. I love playing with light for visual interest and using natural light to capture your family’s authentic appearances and interactions. However, finding consistent lighting can be difficult when shooting outside or even in a home that’s a little dim inside.
With a studio session, we can combine both natural light from the windows and artificial light from tools inside to create the perfect bright and airy look for your photos. It really doesn’t even matter what the lighting situation is outside. Your photos are literally guaranteed to have amazing lighting.
(As a bonus, we can even take dreamy silhouette photos with the tools my Dallas photography studio has to offer!)
Since we’re inside and have artificial light to work with, it also doesn’t matter what time of day we take the photos. I do like to use the beautiful natural light coming through the windows, but, in general, we have a lot more flexibility with timing than we do with outdoor photo sessions.
While I love in-home photography sessions in Dallas because they capture your family in a cozy, familiar space, I also know how stressful preparing your home can sometimes be. As a mom of two, I know just how hard it is to keep a home semi-organized. If you struggle to keep toys put away, laundry off the floor, and dishes from piling up, know you’re not alone! I totally understand the stress of housekeeping with little ones!
So, if you’re wanting the predictability and bright lighting of an indoor session but are a little overwhelmed at the prospect of having it at your own home, a studio session is the perfect solution! You don’t have to clean or organize anything before or after. You can leave your home – in whatever state it’s currently in – and relax in a luxurious Dallas photo studio for the whole session.
I just have to give this one a quick shoutout. If we’re shooting in a field or park, there’s not always a nearby (or clean!) bathroom. If you’re a pregnant momma or you have little kids, having the bathroom onsite can actually make a surprising difference in how much you enjoy your photography session. Besides easily going to the bathroom, it’s also super convenient to have a place to change between photos for different outfits.
I know from taking photos of my own kids–sometimes taking pictures outside with children and toddlers can be a little bit like herding cats. There are just so many places for them to explore!
At my Dallas photography studio, it’s a lot easier to keep your kids focused and to keep an eye on them when you’re in a photo and they’re not. Plus, we have toys at the studio to help entertain them.

What do you think? Studio or outdoor or in-home session? Each has its pros and cons, and I love how photos turn out in each setting, but I wanted to share a bit about why studio sessions can be so great.
One final thought: Sometimes people worry that a studio session leaves you with stiffly posed photos. We can certainly pose you and your loved ones if you like, but I try to keep things natural no matter where I am taking photos.
