I am an on-location, natural light photographer based in Dallas, Texas. My style is based on beautiful light, pastels, and intimate connections. My goal is to beautifully capture the most precious moments in your life in a way that you will cherish for many years to come. I can't wait to get to know you!
I recently shot this dreamy maternity session at my DFW natural light studio and I was in love with the couple’s style choices. If you read my blogs, you know how much I love maternity sessions for capturing the intimacy of pregnancy and motherhood. This session was no exception. I was especially drawn to the details of their wardrobe and decided I would feature these photos with tips on how to style your maternity session or any portrait session in DFW.
As a luxury Dallas photographer, it’s my goal to give my clients gorgeous, keepsake photos that capture the beauty of a particular moment in life. I believe in paying attention to the details, ensuring that every element of a photograph is authentic to my clients and effortlessly lovely. That’s why I give so much attention to outfit choices, offering an exclusive client wardrobe for all my female clients and including a wardrobe consultation with every session so that everyone can look their best in clothing that photographs beautifully.
Here are my top three suggestions for styling your session!
Choose Colors that are Neutral, Pastel, and Compliment Your Features
If you follow me on social media, you probably know that I love soft, natural colors. They always photograph so timelessly, and they keep the focus on the people wearing the clothes, rather than drawing attention away. That said, I still love color, as the right amount can really make a photo pop. For example, this couple chose to have Dad wear a simple teal T-shirt. It’s still on the pastel side, but it’s a little bit bolder, perfectly complementing Mom’s softer tones. The teal also really brings out her blue eyes, making for some swoon-worthy couple photos! If you’re going for more color in your photos, it’s often helpful to have one person bring the brighter hues so that the photos don’t look too busy.
Choose Pieces that are Visually Interesting
While, in these photos, Mom’s color palette is more neutral than Dad’s, her wardrobe pieces have a lot of texture and flattering lines. Since Mom and her baby bump are the real focus of these photos, these dresses are the perfect choices for highlighting her figure. I love her cream and white textured bodycon dress for accentuating her bump, and the flowy blue dress gives off such dreamy, feminine vibes. When you’re deciding on pieces for your photography session, selecting a variety of textures and patterns can add to the composition of your photos as a whole, lending visual interest without overwhelming.
Keep Jewelry and Other Details Simple
I love jewelry and details that have sentimental meaning. For example, Dad’s classic watch adds a little extra significance to the photos where he’s holding Mom’s bump. We’re reminded of the couple’s anticipation as they wait for the passage of time to bring them their precious baby. Mom’s jewelry is also simple and tasteful, once again keeping the photos from appearing too busy. As you plan for your DFW photography session, never underestimate the power of the right details.
I hope this post gives you a few ideas for styling your DFW photography session. If you’re ready to book me as your Dallas maternity photographer or for another occasion, I’m always happy to bounce around wardrobe ideas!
